Opportunity to participate in UNISON solidarity trip:
UNISON West Midlands Delegation to Nicaragua 27 November - 7 December 2025
The West Midlands Regional International Forum would like to send two delegates on a solidarity trip to Managua, Nicaragua, to participate in trade union/cultural visits, activities and events. This trip is being facilitated by Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign Action Group (NSCAG) who are the leading UK organisation supporting peace and progress for the people of Nicaragua. NSCAG are working closely with Nicaraguan public sector trade unions UNE and FETSALUD to put together a full itinerary including:
- An orientation session with the FNT (National Workers Front, equivalent of British TUC)
- Meeting with the CTCP (self-employed workers' union) and the National Workers Front
- Attendance at young members’ training events/committee meetings of UNE and FETSALUD
- Attendance at Executive Committees of UNE and FETSALUD including meeting with the Local Government section of UNE
- Visit to/meeting with Nicaraguan National Assembly
- Visit to one of Nicaragua's 'casa maternas' (maternity wait homes) which are set up in rural areas for mothers who are either single parents or giving birth for the first time
- Visit to Historical sites/sites of cultural significance in Managua
Any UNISON member in the West Midlands Region may express an interest in participating in this trip but please ensure you have a valid passport and availability to travel on the dates specified above.
